Jacques-Henri Lartigue Biography

Jacques Henri Lartigue, French photographer was born Courbevoie on June 13, 1894. He was from a rich family.

He was interested in photography from childhood: he often took the photographs of his family members, friends. He was photographing plays, sport events, for example: he photographed Coupe Gordon Bennett.

Jacques Henri Lartigue has produced his photos in many formats and sizes. He sold some of his photos to La Vie au Grand, Grand Air sporting magazines. He also earned his own money from selling his paintings.   

His early, childhood photos were discovered by Charles Rado when Jacques was 69 years old. These photos were produced to the ruler of the Museum of Modern Art and he made an exhibition. Photos were published in Life magazine in 1963.

Jacques was also a writer. His first book was named Diary of a Century. It was published with help of Richard Avedon.

Jacques Henri Lartigue died in 1986.
